Impulsive behaviours can sometimes have a negative (sometimes long lasting impact). Utilizing Behavioural techniques and working to control these impulsive behaviours can lead to better decision making and positive and healthy habits.
At Reflection Centre, we provide support and treatment for individuals struggling with impulse control disorders. Our experienced therapists help clients develop strategies to manage impulsive behaviors, such as compulsive shopping, kleptomania, and pyromania. We understand that impulse control disorders can be challenging and impact many areas of an individual's life. That's why we offer a safe and non-judgmental environment for individuals to explore their feelings and develop the skills they need to live a healthy, balanced life.
Impulses take many shapes and forms and oftentimes, can make an individual feel so powerless and frustrated with why they may feel or behave the way that they do. We may ask ourselves "why do I want to do this" or "why do I do this", and answering these questions is the first step in treatment. I take a proactive approach in creating a treatment protocol for clients with impulse control issues to aid them in alleviating the problematic behaviour(s).
An impulse control disorder is a condition in which a person has trouble controlling emotions or behaviors. Often, the behaviors violate the rights of others or conflict with societal norms and the law. With the CBT approach some of these behaviors can be managed.
