Chronic pain often increases as we begin to "loop" Our pain causes us to think a certain way, and our thinking influences how we feel physically, often increasing pain levels and a sense of heightened sensitivity. As a breast cancer survivor, I have personally practiced and found pain relief from various pain reduction techniques. These have included mindfulness, CBT or learning to reframe "thinking errors", and visualization to reduce stress, create safe spaces inside and change our internal states. Sharing this experience would is very meaningful to me in my practice.

Adjusting to new limitations can be difficult. A change in health, whether sudden or gradual, can be disorienting and frustrating. There can be so much grief tied up in changes to our health. No longer having the ability to do the activities we enjoy and having to change our plans for the future are just two of the many ways grief can impact our ability to adjust to chronic pain or illness. I work with people who are experiencing chronic pain, disability, or illness and the caregivers who support them to continue to live meaningful, connected lives.

People often think of chronic pain as a physical problem. But living with chronic pain can take a heavy psychological toll. It can create feelings of anger, hopelessness, shame and isolation. It can impact your sleep, your diet, and can contribute to a variety of psychological symptoms such as depression, phobia and anxiety. Together we will make a pain management plan that involves identifying the thoughts and emotions contributing to your pain. Through counselling, we can find a way for you to handle your pain more effectively, and improve your self-esteem and overall quality of life.
