Counsellor/Therapist, MA, CT, RPC, MPCC
My background masters-level training is in systems training and couples work is about being able to work with the couple as a whole. It is recognizing and identifying that even disfunction in a relationship serves a function. Couples get stuck in patterns and it is helpful to be able to identify the patterns but then it is important to learn skills and move the conversation to a deeper level of understanding unmet needs, dreams, goals, and desires. When trust has been seriously broken, it needs to be recognized that forgiveness is possible but that an examination of all that was involved in the breaking of the trust to ensure that it does not become a pattern in the relationship. The modalities I would use would be Structural Strategic systems therapy, Emotionally Focused therapy, the Gottman Method, Satir Communications, and more to improve: couple communication, conflict resolution skills, address negative interactional patterns and improve resolution skills. It is critically important to say if you are coming for counselling because it is an abusive relationship, I will not do couples counselling as it can increase the abuse.

Do you feel disheartened about your relationship? Is there a growing gap between you and your partner that you just can’t seem to close? Do you feel you are stuck in a cycle or dynamic that leaves you both feeling isolated and hopeless? Are your lows lower and more frequent than they used to be? I want you to know you are in the right place. Together, we can transform your isolation and negative communication patterns into connection and intimacy. By committing yourself to the process, you can move towards security and connection and a place where you and your partner feel loved, seen and heard by one other. Using an emotionally-focused approach, helps you and your partner feel safer, as a step towards being able to communicate your deepest and most vulnerable feelings and needs to one another. We can help you communicate what you are trying to say to your partner, in a way that they can hear you. Often this first requires learning to identify faulty communication patterns and how to de-escalate a fight. Drawing on attachment-based methods, our licensed marriage and family therapists use emotion-focused principles with couples and individuals who are seeking to transform their relationships. We will get to the heart of the issue. There is no more important work than healing your relationship and home, and you deserve nothing less than specialized help!
