Emotional Abuse Therapy

Melanie Fuller

Registered Psychotherapist, Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
While our minds and bodies function to protect us, our survival strategies may not always produce long-term outcomes which suit how one prefers their life to look. Chronic experiences of the four f's (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) can knock one off balance to their valued, preferred way of living. In therapy, I will integrate my personal and professional training in DBT, to collaborate and form a treatment plan with you that aligns with your values and preferred story, to facilitate the life worth living that you deserve.

Emotional Abuse Therapy

Shasha Weir

Counsellor/Therapist, RSSW
Emotional abuse is a type of trauma that can have long-lasting effects on an individual's mental and emotional well-being. It involves consistent patterns of behavior from a person who seeks to control, manipulate, or demean their partner or loved one. Emotional abuse can take many forms, such as constant criticism, name-calling, belittling, withholding affection or attention, and even gaslighting. It is essential to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have experienced emotional abuse, to help them process their trauma and develop healthy coping strategies. I strive to provide a space to explore the impact of emotional abuse on your self-esteem, trust, and relationships, and work toward healing and recovery. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and you do not have to face emotional abuse alone.

EMDR Therapy Toronto - Heal Anxiety, PTSD, Childhood Trauma - Ayan Mukherjee

Registered Psychotherapist, Certified EMDR Therapist & Consultant
If you have experienced emotional abuse then you may have the tendency to downplay it and not consider it to be akin to "big T trauma", like physical and sexual abuse. Although research and clinical experience shows that chronic, childhood emotional abuse can cause significant disturbance, destabilization and psychic fragmentation in adulthood. We will take your emotional abuse history seriously and use an attachment-focused EMDR Therapy and IFS lens to process the traumatic memories and the betrayal component in it. Guided Imagery and Resource Tapping to fill the deficit trauma would then be used to give your emotional brain and nervous system what they needed, but which they didn't receive when the abuse was happening. Email me for a free 30-min phone consultation to discuss more.

Registered Psychotherapist, HBEd, MA (Hons.), Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Providing psychoeducation on what Emotional Abuse is, is the first step. Emotional abuse can include: constant yelling; name calling, demeaning remarks or threats; physically or socially isolating an individual; withholding affection; bullying or public humiliation; exposure to family violence; denying something an individual knows is true (gaslighting); destroying an individual’s belongings, hurting their pets, or threatening to do so amongst other things. One of the hardest things a person has to do is stop being in denial when someone you love is mistreating you. Through DBT I will teach you assertiveness training, distress tolerance, self-acceptance and cognitive reframing so that you can reclaim your self worth.
