Anxiety is a horrible thing, it makes you doubt yourself and the world around you, it leads you to overestimate how bad things are and underestimate your ability to handle them. There are very easy to learn skills that can help you get anxiety and fear under your control and retake important areas of your life.

Licensed Professional Counsellor, CCC, MPS-AT
Anxiety is a common sidekick for folks with ADHD. Our fast-moving mind has a higher tendency to worry and it can get pretty debilitating. There are lots of calming ways to process our fears, to learn to navigate our high-octane brains in a way that feels better every day.

Anxiety can suddenly ruin a good day, causing panic attacks and overwhelming thoughts about everyday tasks or social interactions, which can lead to physical symptoms such as chest tightness. It can take many different forms, including phobias, procrastination, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, all of which can significantly impact daily life. I provide personalized support for anxiety through targeted treatments like CBT, ACT, or EMDR, which can help individuals manage their anxiety.

Everyone experiences anxiety. It can actually be quite helpful, motivating us to do things that are important to us, or letting us know of potential danger. Anxiety becomes problematic when we're afraid of things that aren't actually dangerous, or when our anxiety stops us from doing things that are important to us. The good news is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for anxiety disorders are among the most successful treatments we have in psychology. They work by teaching you how to accurately evaluate your anxiety triggers to tell if your anxiety reaction is justified or not. If your anxiety reaction doesn't match the threat, you learn skills to help you act more effectively, and manage your emotional reaction in the moment.

Anxiety and fear is a normal function of our brain; it helps us be alert to danger, and be able to react quickly. Unfortunately, what starts off as an adaptive function, becomes maladaptive after the threat has passed. We become hyperalert to danger where it no longer exists, and we often erroneously make connections that result in innocuous stimuli triggering an anxious response. It all makes sense, but it ends up with debilitating effects on your daily functioning. I will approach this with curiousity and will help you calm anxious responses and understand yourself and your brain differently. My theoretical approach will have a foundation of attachment theory and be trauma informed. While working with anxiety, CBT strategies will be integrated, including exploring errors of thinking as well as incorporating exposure plans.
