Living in our world and culture, being bombarded by images of the "ideal" body every day, it is no surprise there is a rise in body image insecurities and disordered eating patterns. Finding ease and contentment in your own body can be a painful struggle, but it is possible. Therapy can help you unpack the familial, social and systemic influences contributing to negative body image and self-worth, creating a path towards healing and the freedom to live in harmony with your authentic self.
Our first sense of ourselves comes from our body. We know we are alive and separate from the Mother. If the mothering is not adequate the infant will not have a good sense of self. This will follow them throughout their development. It is the root of later eating disorders and body image problems. Self-awareness and insight may be able to mediate these issues and may also be a source of energy for growth. We have been helping people to grow from their psychopathologies for 30 years using classical and the new evidence based theories and techniques.
Body image issues are often rooted in societal, cultural, and familial expectations. Therapy can help you explore these expectations and life experiences and how they have impacted your body image. Helping you to regain control and shift the relationship you have with your body.
Body image issues occur in both women and men and are often driven by societal, cultural, and familial expectations. Our therapists help you explore how these expectations have impacted your own image and to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to shift the narrative regarding your body.
We are all born into a world where our bodies are constantly under scrutiny. The race to look and feel good in our skin can be an exhausting one, both physically and emotionally. My particular experience is that of a gay man trying to fit into a culture that puts a huge pressure on body image, sexual currency and attractiveness. These issues can be extremely hard to navigate and can lead to anxiety, depression and low self-worth. Together we will work on building a more robust sense of self which will allow you to feel more comfortable in your skin.
