Depression is exhausting. It is isolating, scary, and overwhelming. It's not something we choose or ask for; nor is it a definition of who we are. I think, however, that it serves a purpose. Much like my mother not letting me see friends or have them over if my room wasn't clean, depression doesn't let us focus on anything else until we have focused on the underlying cause sufficiently. I am not afraid of your depression, and I am willing to be curious about it and to help you learn what it needs you to know. Patience, compassion, and courage are all part of the journey, and I would like to be able to walk it with you.
