We will explore the underlying causes of your depressive symptoms, which may include biological, psychological, and social factors. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is often used to help you identify and challenge negative thought patterns and develop more adaptive coping strategies.
I approach depression initially by exploring your life circumstances and/or the thoughts going through your head that are trigging your mood. There are times when we may want to look at the old tape recordings playing through your head triggering depression. Once I have an idea of what is fueling your depression then we can target that. I teach your how to use thought strategies and behavior strategies to reduce depression and improve your mood. My goal is to teach you several tools so that in any given situation, you have a tool to use.
My approach to the treatment of depression utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-oriented style that also factors in environmental and relationship components that may be worsening symptoms of depression. We will create a space for deep and vulnerable conversation while also exploring changeable or approachable things in their life to create meaning and hope.
