Lots of people don’t like their bodies. Maybe abuse or neglect created dissociation, an eating disorder or depression. Body distortions can happen for a variety of reasons, each needing a somewhat different approach. I’m also an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist.
I'm a plus sized woman. I've been there. You eat with friends at a restaurant, and police yourself and what or how much you eat. You walk into a gym (if you make it that far!) to either lose weight or gain mass, but cannot seem to do anything because it feels like there's judgement coming from all sides. You are exasperated that people think it's OK to make remarks about being 'so skinny' or otherwise comment on your body/appearance. You hate shopping for clothes or cosmetics, or participating in activities because of how you feel about your body. Let's talk. It's so difficult to break free from societal expectations without someone on your side.
