Trauma and PTSD can have a profound impact on every aspect of our lives, but please know that you are not alone in this journey. Together, we'll work to understand the effects of trauma on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop coping strategies to help you manage symptoms and regain a sense of safety and control.
Trauma is the lasting response that impacts you psychologically, emotionally, and physically after a distressing event. Complex trauma comes from multiple exposures to various traumas over time. Both can impact your nervous system and body’s ability to cope and regulate. Trauma can play a major role in why you behave, think, and feel the way you do. I will bring body-up somatic approaches first to make sure you have the resources and skills to talk about and heal trauma. We will work together to learn what your trauma responses look like and have ways to get back into a state of safety. I also prioritize and understand the importance of having a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship first - before opening up. I bring a trauma-first, somatic, and holistic lens. I am also trained in EMDR and can use as part of the treatment plan if needed.

Like most of my specialty areas, I have thorough experience in successfully treating traumatic conditions. I am skilled and have taught at NYU all evidence-based treatments for trauma. I have helped people with combat trauma, rape trauma, and even micro trauma. In addition, I have also researched and provided new findings on the relationship between abuse and trauma.
Amanda also has advanced training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and offers a 12 session empirically validated treatment that is highly effective at reframing unhelpful thoughts and beliefs following a traumatic experience.
We have many therapists at IPG who specialize in working with trauma and PTSD, several of whom are trained and experienced in using the technique of EMDR, which studies have shown is extremely effective in treating it. Our Executive Clinical Director, Susan Menahem, LCSW, is an expert in EMDR and does regular training sessions with our staff in this modality of psychotherapy.
Trauma can be paralyzing to your life. I work with survivors of trauma and PTSD in a supportive and compassionate manner to determine what your individual needs are. From there we begin our journey toward self healing and mental peace.
