We all experience painful events in life, but some of us experience traumatic events that seem to paralyze us and resurfaces in our minds over and over again. A traumatic event is an incident that causes physical, emotional, spiritual, or psychological harm. When individuals experience a horrible event, the emotional impact and response to that event is referred to as trauma. Some examples of traumatic events include: war, death of a loved one, serious illness, natural disasters, physical pain or injury such as a severe car accident, terrorism, experiencing acts of violence, abuse or neglect, witnessing a death, domestic abuse, and prison stay. Trauma can have debilitating effects on us but we can heal. I walk clients through trauma therapy with empathy, care and an approach that aims not to re-traumatize my clients as they heal. With great caution and care, I help my clients face, address, and recover from past trauma.
