There is a trauma to everyday life that we all experience and trauma from childhoods and even inherited trauma passed down through the generations. There are multiple approaches to trauma and our course will depend on the type of trauma you have experienced and what your needs are. I have 28 years working at a Veterans hospital setting and have expertise in working with psychological trauma.
I have committed my life to help women, especially black women and girls, although not excluding men and boys, get through and heal from their traumas. Including my own.
I help clients recognize that not only that they can play a role and serve a purpose for the helping and nurturing of others but that they can also enjoy their own joy, peace, happiness and fulfillment inspite of what things they have experienced or survived.
We’ve all experienced distressing events in life that are traumatic in some way. Feeling stressed or upset during these times is a normal and appropriate response. However, if our response to a traumatic event lasts too long and impacts our functioning or quality of life, then treatment can be helpful.

Trauma comes in many varieties. In classical PTSD we focus on Abuse, and even then, on severe and dramatic episodes of abuse. A more nuanced and sophisticated approach looks also at "small t" trauma with the same level of respect and seriousness. Neglect is a part of this. Abandonment The history of failed treatments for Trauma is epic. I believe that Shame and Trauma are at the core of psychological distress.
Much of my work has been with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. My approach in working with adults who experience traumatic events is similar; that of extreme compassion, safety and trust.
We live in a fast-paced environment under pressure to succeed and keep up. As we enter each transition, we embody different roles from parenthood, sibling, caretaker, employee and the list goes on. Life quickly becomes busy with many stressors, challenges and endless to-do lists. We quickly become our own self-critic.
