I have worked in the field of eating disorders for 11 years including out patient, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive out patient settings in the role of admissions and intake coordinator, group and out patient therapist, primary therapist, assistant clinical director and clinical director.
Eating Disorders are serious. I treat an eating disorder in much the same way as I treat a substance abuse disorder. Dr. Salvador Minuchin was the founder of "family therapy" and we know that those two disorders become a family issue. Substance Abusers often do much better with family support and people who have eating disorders can benefit a lot with having their families present during therapy. Most frequently, many young people do not want to share this disorder with their family and we therefore honor everyone's boundaries.

Do you feel preoccuppied with food? Are you restricting foods or feel concerned about your body size or weight? Do you binge eat, or compensate for eating by purging or over-exercising? I would like to help you. Disordered eating is common, but can wreak havock on your life, sense of self, relationships, and health. I am compassionate, and want to understand your struggle without judgement. Together, we can talk to understand where these patterns come from, and how they may even seem to serve you at times. We can work toward slowing down the process, diminishing secrecy and shame, and open up opportunities for change and greater emotional and physical well being.

I have worked with individuals with Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder as inpatients getting stabilized and outpatients following up with an appropriate nutritionist and psychopharmacologist. One of the primary issues of the treatment frequently is body dysmorphic disorder. Patients are given a treatment contract for an appropriate goal weight range knowing that they will be hospitalized for stabilization if they require a higher level of care.
