• Dialectical and Behavioural Therapy – e.g., mindfulness, distress tolerance skills
More specifically, within the Beating Depression program, workouts are centered around the following topics:
• Education about low mood/overview of depression
• The thinking-feeling-behaviour connection
• How to monitor and recognize thinking traps and challenge unhelpful thinking styles that can lead to negative emotions
• Behavioural strategies (e.g., behavioural activation: ways to increase activity level, planning/scheduling fun and pleasurable activities)
• Problem Solving strategies
• Distress tolerance strategies (e.g., distraction, tense and release)
• Mindfulness strategies (e.g., accepting and being more mindful of negative and irrational thoughts)
• Interpersonal effectiveness strategies (e.g., how to assertively communicate and get your needs met effectively)
• How sleep, appetite and exercise impact mood and ways to improve these lifestyle factors
• Self-compassion strategies: how to help your inner coach speak up while quietening your inner critic
• How to strengthen interpersonal relationships and the impact these relationships have on one’s mood
• Personalized Staying Well Plan: How to maintain gains from treatment
