Our society does not provide us with a language or many rituals/practices to process grief or loss on an individual level or as a collective. Grief can occur in so many traditionally unmarked instances in our lives, from the loss of a job/career, relationship breakup, relocation of home, loss of a pet, family member, friend, colleague or loved one. Often we can feel very alone in our grief as a result. Grief and loss can bring up a whole range of emotions, and trigger losses we have experienced in the past. I will work with you to understand your experience of grief as it is a very individual process, normalize what you're feeling and going through, and provide a safe space for you to process and reconcile your grief. We'll work together to discover a new normal after loss. It will take time, but I want you to know that you're not alone in this.

When we lose someone, through death or in some other way, we need someone to talk to. Someone who listens and strives to understand as we work though the often complex and confusing range of emotions that loss and grief bring. Most of all we need someone to be there who can be steady and accept the intense pain that we carry, the rage, the sadness, all of it. Eventually something inside can lighten. Perhaps it doesn't go away, but it hurts less. We can tolerate it. Manage it. Life opens again.
Psychotherapy with people who have experienced losses, especially traumatic losses often centers around grief and mourning. Navigating the many challenges of mourning while trying to cope with present day life is what I help people work on in therapy.
Several of the therapist on our team specialize in loss or grief. Included in this group is Pamela who is a Registered Clinical Psychologist who is currently writing a book about grief based on her extensive research and findings
