I provide a queer-affirmative and accepting space with an emphasis on understanding intersectionalities – of being queer and also being an immigrant, a person of colour, a woman, or someone from a lower socio-economic background. I've worked with the queer community, supporting teens and young adults at various stages of their journeys. The challenges queer folks face include internalised homophobia or transphobia, coming out to oneself and loved ones, self-acceptance, and exploring sexuality. Many grapple with hiding their true identity, facing loneliness, safety concerns, fear of rejection, and the risk of homelessness or higher suicide rates. Additionally, navigating cultural and religious beliefs and seeking acceptance within both the queer and heteronormative communities can be daunting. I'm here to help you cultivate the tools to navigate these complex experiences.
Our LGBTQ issues therapy provides affirming and supportive care for individuals navigating the unique challenges related to sexual orientation and gender identity. We offer a safe space to explore identity, address discrimination, and build resilience. Our goal is to promote self-acceptance, mental health, and well-being within the LGBTQ community.
I believe that as people, we thrive when we fully live out who we are and when we experience connections that are embracing of our unique qualities. I understand that for many, including members of the LGBTQ2A+ community, opportunities for authentic connection and expression are oftentimes denied, minimized, and challenged, at various levels by various systems of oppression. As a therapist, it is my hope to create a safe and welcoming space in which you feel seen, heard, and appreciated so that together, we can explore your experiences and struggles, and help you to feel empowered in your authentic self and relationships. We explore how to grieve the process of not being who we thought we should be or what others may expect, while moving towards self love and acceptance. As I gay male I can emphasize with ideal self images and how conditions of others can immobilize us. We can start to grief expectations of who we thought we should be, and move us forward to empowerment and life meaning in process work.
I am a fierce supporter of the LGBTQ community. Have worked for years with many people who happen to be part of the LGBTQ both in the individual and couple therapy realms.
Being gay means following a nonstandard course in life. Redefining existence in new ways. Perceiving the world differently. Moving through difficulty can lead to transcendence.
