Philadelphia's leading psychiatric facility for adults & adolescents struggling with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.
I see entering therapy as sacred work. I view relationships as our biggest vehicles of growth in life and believe every relationship has something that can be learned from it to help us embrace more of who we really are. I specialize in individual, couple and sex therapy, as well as trauma.
As a licensed psychologist, a board certified clinical hypnotherapist and medical psychotherapist, I have been in private practice for 30 years in center city Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill. I am Jungian, feminist, and cognitive/behavioral in orientation, and use a blend of appropriate orientations.
My experience working with neurodiversity allows me to work with a wide range of clients. We will work together to create a supportive and challenging therapeutic relationship, in order to create a space for growth to occur. Examining helpful and unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving will allow us to understand your complex narrative.
I specialize in working with clients who want to understand themselves better. Do you think you have ADHD? Were you diagnosed with ADHD as a child but have never really understood what that meant for you? Do fears about your health or performance disrupt your life? Do you feel that your brain never wants to quiet down?
These are many of the topics I cover with my clients. Together, we'll work to understand your worries, your executive functioning skills, and create new, effective coping skills.
Reflecting on one's past, recognizing present strengths, and setting goals for the future can be instrumental in achieving the life one desires. As a licensed professional counselor and certified professional recovery coach, I work closely with my clients to develop a personalized plan that meets their unique needs. I build genuine relationships with my clients based on trust and empathy. My comprehensive approach provides individuals with a safe and inclusive environment to explore their personal and professional aspirations. I offer a supportive and non-judgmental space where my clients can feel heard and understood.
We are a group of therapists who believe in our clients' ability to heal and find balance. We have the expertise and awareness to help facilitate the journey! Each of us bring warmth, compassion, and our own unique sparkle to the session - whether that's a great pun, ecotherapy, a well-timed dog interruption, you name it. It would be an honor to work with you as you find your path forward!
Relationships matter to me, including the relationship that I build with my clients. Whether I am working with individuals or with couples, I aim to create a space where my clients feel cared for and seen. It is my hope that the nurture that my clients experience in our sessions will transform their understanding of themselves, their lives, and their relationships. It is always a joy for me when my clients share the ways that they integrate their new insight with new actions to create lives that they enjoy.
Sarah is now accepting new virtual and in-person clients for February 2023!
My clients are caregivers who feel anxious, depressed, and utterly burned-out from giving so much of themselves. They often identify as the peacemakers in their families and friend groups. Many lived through childhoods where they were the "mature" child and were expected to be low maintenance. Many of my clients struggle chronically with family relationships. Many struggle to identify and go after what they want professionally and personally. They may struggle to separate their wisehs from what is expected of them or will make them look impressive.
My clients also come in as families wanting to work through long-standing conflict and issues that keep them interacting in predictable, patterned ways.
Finally, I treat trauma and emotional distress using EMDR therapy.
