Depression can be defined as having a negative thought patterns. A combination of CBT and Narrative would be beneficial in identifying and exploring a clients relationship to depression and developing a healthier thought pattern. Art could help a client draw what their depression looks like and explore ways to diminish it.
For depression, I utilize a cognitive behavioural therapy approach. The focus is on one's thoughts, emotions and behaviours as they all influence and impact each other. By identifying the pattern, each can be challenged and adapted to in an effective way.
It has been an isolating and particularly stressful era. If you struggle with low mood and depression, it has been an extremely isolating time. A first step to tackling depression is to reach out and talk. The advantage to remote therapy is that you simply have to open your device and start this process.
Working with depression, I focus on understanding when a client needs a compassionate approach and when a client needs strong motivation and encouragement. Through understanding the cause and forces driving the depression I help clients gain a better understanding of their own experience, apply skills to sit with and/or move through feelings of depression, and work through fears related to not being depressed.
Depression and low motivation are areas that are very common for people who seek therapy. I really enjoy helping people work with the emotions and thoughts that impact on people who struggle with depression and have had success helping many people in this area.
