Questions are as diverse as the individuals posing them. This topic has been a frequent point of discussion, particularly in my capacity as a life skills and career coach. Reading materials will be suggested, and individual sessions will be promoted to foster personal growth, cohesion, and inner healing.
I have dedicated my long career to parent education and family therapy. I use an Adlerian approach to help parents understand their child's behaviour better and to gain greater cooperation and harmony in the family. I begin by helping parents understand the goals of their child's behaviour (undue attention-seeking, power, revenge, assumed inadequacy). From there we work on specific effective strategies to become more inclusive and democratic. These approaches are very effective in helping children feel respected, valued and important in the family and will reduce conflict and misbehaviour significantly. I always focus on the tools of encouragement, communication, problem-solving and shared responsibility and will help parents learn how to hold effective family meetings as a way of keeping these goals in sight.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy training for 5 years post psychotherapy training has enabled me to enhance my work with parents. Working with parents has always been part of my work as a speech pathologist and attachment therapist. I am very interested in the baby-mother/caregiver bond.
If seeking parenting based support I can help you deepen your connection and improve communication with your child, while further supporting you as a parent in developing confidence in your ability to manage the many stressors of parenting. My approach to parenting support is highly effective in not only modifying unwanted behaviours, but increasing mutual trust, and instilling life long skills that will prove invaluable as your child(ren) develop towards adulthood.
