This topic is inherently distressing for many. Once comfort and connection are established, attention shifts towards addressing, discussing, and hopefully resolving the root causes of trauma and pain below it. The primary concerns revolve around physical health and overall well-being, not weight perception.

Weight gain can result in people feeling judged, insecure, and helpless in their ability to feel comfortable in their own skin. Weight gain is often associated with emotional distress and a perceived inability to manage hardships in a constructive and healthy way. The therapy process regarding obesity and weight gain will largely depend on the unique situation of the client. We will explore the history of your weight gain struggles; when it began and what was going on for you at the time. We will also explore the purpose of turning toward food. Food may have helped you to temporarily manage difficult emotions. Understanding the purpose and function of turning toward food is a fundamental part of the therapy process, as clients learn to view their difficulty through a compassionate and nonjudgmental lens. By gaining insight into the meaning that you attach to food we will collaboratively establish a treatment plan that aligns with your unique wants and needs.
If you are struggling with Eating disorders, body dysmorphia, or poor self-image we can collaborate to find the links and the root cause. We will work together to sort out triggers and gain strategies to cope with daily struggles.
