Kerri Parke
Counsellor/Therapist, Psychotherapist ACA-L2
My own queer journey and identity has taught me that no two experiences are the same and that even while things for LGBTQI people are improving all the time, we are still an oppressed community. Divergence from "the norm" within society still requires some explanation, justification and striving for acceptance - all of which can impact on a person's mental health. Trans people are some of the most vulnerable people in our society and they deserve support as they transition, as they come out, as they navigate employment, housing or relationships as they need it. I have experience of working with the LGBTQI people in a variety of ways, including coming out, dealing with discrimination and prejudice as well as issues that are unrelated to their gender and sexual identity but want a space where those parts of themselves are welcomed and understood.
I have worked with members of the community with their general therapeutic needs, as well as those who sought support during the coming out process, faced homophobia, biphobia and/or transphobia, were experiencing queer intimate partner abuse, sexual abuse and/or assault and those with a HIV positive diagnosis.
