Hypnotherapist
The appearance of COVID-19 has exacerbated this issue. It's important to remember that while it's okay to feel sad, stressed, lonely or worried, everyone reacts differently and sometimes these issues take a while to go away. If you are experiencing these feelings, hypnosis is an effective way to reduce the effects of social isolation.

This pandemic had forced us to isolate for so long! No wonder we feel socially isolated! This pandemic has brought to light the weaknesses of our support systems, has created distances between people that seem unsurmountable. Through therapy I can help you share your feelings and help you nurture old and new relationships. I will help you find solutions to any barriers or difficulties - whether there are internal or external - that may be keeping you from having a satisfying social life.

Social Isolation

Sarah Kaleem

Counsellor/Therapist, OT Reg. (Ont.), Psychotherapist
Do you feel low and disconnected from others? Do you feel like it takes a great effort to see others or carry on a conversation? Does it feel easier to stay at home, although you know that this may not be healthy for you? Has the pandemic impacted your ability to be more comfortable in social situations? Perhaps, you feel like relationships are difficult in general to maintain. You don't always have to feel this way. I am here to help. I have worked extensively with individuals that struggle with social isolation. We will work together to get at the root of the cause and move forward towards change. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), both treatments that can be helpful to address isolation. In CBT, we may focus on how your emotions are connected to what you may be thinking and how this impacts your behaviours. Sometimes, we may get stuck in a cycle of isolation. CBT will help break that cycle and allow you to become more aware of how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are more important than you think. In IPT, we may consider your current relationships, communication styles, as well as relationship patterns to understand why you may be isolating yourself. Reach out for help so we can begin the journey for you to feel more connected.

Social Isolation

Sehr Athar

Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Social isolation affects more of us than we realize; it's a collective experience that we don't talk about enough, and that has been exacerbated due to the pandemic. Social isolation can also affect those of us who experience intersecting marginalized identities, whether we're from the BIPOC or 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and we've had to nagivate system oppressions our entire lives. Whether you're a student at university, an elder in the community, or someone who has recently arrived to Ontario from another place, we can work together to process the impact systems of oppression have had on our lives, work to connect ourselves in self compassionate way, and identify strategies to help us to feel part of the collective again. We'll develop a plan together and actively pursue tasks in between sessions to address these issues.
