Men’s Issues

Madison Chen

Counsellor/Therapist, MCP, RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor)
As men, we are often asked to toughen up, suppress our feelings, don't show weakness, and keep on going. This is unfair and unrealistic for anyone, men included, who requires emotional outlets, comfort, and care. In therapy, I hope to help you feel safe to explore your feelings, let them speak, and allow them to help move you to reach out to important and supportive others for love and comfort. It is OKAY to feel what you feel.

Not many good role models exist for men. Too much toxicity in culture to be competitive, strong and closed off from each other creates a loneliness in a group of men - even if you see them all the time. Targeting men's issues requires the enhancement in your relationship with self, your friendships, romantic relationships and parenting relationships. It requires a male to guide your growth for it targets healing our father wounds. Reach out today to book an introductory call and get the care that you deserve.

I work with many men in my practice. Men are believed to be far less likely to seek help than women but I believe that is changing. We socialize men to avoid their emotions and this certainly has an impact in how they understand their own, and other people's feelings. Understandably, this has a negative impact on men's relationships. The role of men in society has shifted significantly in recent years. The example their father's generation provided for them no longer fits as a framework. Men struggle to make sense of the messages they grew up with, integrate them with today's world, yet struggle to process emotions and manage relationships. If they have ASD, ADHD, or mental health issues in addition to these social factors, it can make it that much more complex. It helps to view men from a holistic lense, including all of the various factors that may influence their life.
