Ryan is a Person-Centered and Humanistic counselor. Anxiety can run your life, but it doesn't have to. Together, we'll work on ways to tap into the security and strength of your body. We'll understand the anxious stories and find ways to bring supportive, soothing energy to calm those parts down. We'll listen to your body for any signs of unresolved trauma or relational wounding and work gently with the body to heal.
I treat Anxiety with a combination of behavioral interventions (CBT, DBT, ACT) as well as narrative therapy. Mindfulness is also very effective when treating anxiety.
Anxiety can be paralyzing. Phobias can limit healthy functioning. Both of these can be addressed with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (my specialty), and with creating and developing the tools to change the way the brain processes emotional landmines. I work with a number of approaches to move through the place of fear into a healthy life.
I utilize a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy to confront anxiety head on, and identify the behaviors that directly contribute to the feelings of anxiety.
Anxiety disorders are a broad category and I work to identify the specifics with you. I rely on evidence based interventions for everything from Generalized Anxiety and Panic Disorder to Specific Phobias and OCD
I believe that primary fear is about an active threat such as a tiger in the village that needs to be addressed outside of therapy. Anxiety or fears that are appopriately addressed in therapy require a wide variety of interventions so I support clients in a variety of ways to be empowered in their lives that balance courage and safety.
