Philip Gnilka

Counselor/Therapist, PhD, CPC, LPC, LCPC, CCMHC, NCC
My clients are very hard working, have a long track record of success, and care deeply about their work, friends, and family. Even so, life can be challenging. Many of my clients had a bad day and are still emotionally beating themselves up for minor mistakes. They constantly replay what they should have done differently sometimes for days and weeks at a time. They become frustrated they cannot let go of this self-criticalness and even have thoughts they are not good enough or are a fraud. Feeling engaged in your life, striving for excellence in your work, feeling loved and supported, and feeling anxious free and less self-critical is within your reach. We work with our clients to first understand what drives them to achieve, and that there is hope. Next, we work collaboratively realizing solutions to maintaining their high performance while replacing that self-critical voice that criticizes their work into one that becomes supportive. I help my clients master a set of tools that they can use to help reduce the self-criticalness and anxiety they feel and lead to a calmer more focused life. I have held a range of positions in the counseling field, and my experience as a tenured professor mentoring students in counseling approaches and theories reinforces my passion for helping individual clients directly. Most of my research is focused on perfectionism and stress management, and I am excited to share it with my clients. A little about me! I am quite extroverted and enjoy going out with family and friends. I also love meeting new people. I have a particular passion for traveling and especially enjoy experiencing different countries and cultures. In my spare time besides traveling, I enjoy reading, spending time at the local coffee shop with my French Bulldogs, Gnocchi and Ravioli, and trying new recipes (with the occasional craft cocktail) in the kitchen. If you want to keep that optimum performance in your life and banish that self critical voice you hear, I’d love to help you get there. You don’t have to suffer. I can help. I want to make sure you find the best fit and make an informed decision before moving forward. To ensure a good match, I provide a free consultation which gives us a chance to get to know one another. This time is an opportunity for you to open up as much as you feel comfortable, and I can let you know if I can be helpful.

I strive to create a safe space to reflect on who you are and what you experience, learn to relate to difficult experiences in new ways, and empower you to make choices about how you want to be. Together we build awareness, compassion, and understanding and orient you towards living a full, vital, and connected life - as you define it. I’ve practiced telehealth using secure video conferencing for many years because I love helping people get the compassionate and cutting-edge care they deserve. Even if they live locally to my practice, many healthcare providers, busy professionals, caregivers, and those with limited mobility find this a welcome way to carve out some meaningful time for reflection, healing, and rejuvenation.

Durham, North Carolina therapist: Hope I. Hills, Ph.D., psychologist
Serving LGBTQ+

Hope I. Hills, Ph.D.

Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist in NC, Authorized PsyPact Practitioner in 40 states
Although I see clients in person if you live close to me in NC, I am "authorized" to see clients through Teletherapy by PsyPact, which lets me work with folks in all PsyPact states. I see individuals and couples (who sometimes aren't in the same place!) on my platform, and there is an "ease" that I don't think people expect. My core theory approach is Interpersonal Psychotherapy (combined with CBT, Gestalt, attention to lifestyle, spiritual life and career). I use testing to give us a "quickstart", namely the MBTI, FIRO/B, and Strong Interest Inventory. I also have a list of "handouts" (You wouldn't guess that I've been a professor in Counseling Psychology, would you?!) and a model called the Interpersonal Flexibility Circle that I've developed to more clearly see concretely how relationships really work. All of these methods support our work and are teletherapy friendly. All of them support both individual and relationship therapy (even your relationship with all ages of your SELF!) I use an approach that helps people to rather quickly recognize how their "stuck challenges" and defenses have been "safety maneuvers" for perhaps their whole lives. How enlightening and empowering!
