I am passionate about working with anyone who has experienced depression or anxiety and who wants to take a deeper look at how these painful thoughts and feelings developed, and how they shape their daily lives. I strive to give my patients a myriad of coping skills and therapeutic tools that will allow them to deftly navigate the world’s everyday stressors, and ask them to look introspectively at their own expectations and biases as together we resist heteronormative patriachal structures.
A classic definition of depression is "anger turned inward," and through a non-judgmental exploration of this anger and the relationships involved in its formation, this anger can be worked with and freed.
Depression--particularly anxious depression--can feel so hopeless and crazy-making. In many instances, depression results from the protective mechanisms failing to work for us, like they used to. This work invites you to come forward in the spirit of 100% honesty, awareness, and openness to engage the healthier aspects of your will and arrive at acceptance of a fuller range of your emotional self-expression. When we are in a better, more authentic relationship with ourselves, we free up a lot of inadvertently squandered or eddying energy in order to reengage with our goals once again.
With depression, things can feel incredibly exhausting - and most steps to take towards getting out of a depressive episode can feel forced. I work with people to find realistic steps in decreasing the intensity of their depression, and find a path towards relief. This often includes a collaboration between building coping skills, and exploring the triggers to your depression. I have gotten feedback that my space provides a nice balance of processing and finding sustainable steps in reducing depression.
Everyone will experience depression from time to time. I believe effective listening is most important with regard to depression. We will work together to develop behaviors that will help lessen the depression, and combat some of the unwanted thoughts you might have.
