Does this sound familiar? You want to feel peaceful and content, but instead you are feeling: overwhelmed by stress, totally burned out, or even debilitated by anxiety. It’s been hard for you to manage the emotional toll of constant and often unrealistic demands. You can rarely find a moment to stop and catch your breath. Each day feels like you are being stretched a bit thinner and you wonder how much you have left to give. Life doesn’t have to go on this way. Hi, I’m Dr. Jennifer McManus and I help ambitious women find relief from stress, burnout, anxiety, and deep emotional pain. It is my mission to provide scientifically informed psychotherapy without sacrificing compassion and genuine concern.

I began providing online psychotherapy in March 2020 because of the pandemic. It was a new experience for me and for my clients. We were pleasantly surprised at how effective it has been. I have seen clients with whom I had previously met in person plus clients that began seeing me online. Clients have commented on how nice it has been to meet in the comfort of their own homes. In some ways it has been an even more personal experience.

We work together through your present experiences, supporting you to understand, love and care for the parts of you that may be stuck in the past, in pain or isolated. I bring experience from my years of working in facilitation, group work and therapy to be with you as you connect in with all parts of yourself. We can use these sessions to be deeply curious about the truth you have stored deep within your being. I believe we all hold the answers to the questions that can hold us back, keep us small and stuck in a life that doesn't bring us true happiness. My style of being works alongside your own brilliance to co-create the session that you need.

Do you need support, but can’t make it to an in-person appointment? Are you a busy stay-at-home or working parent, and don’t have the time to drive across town for an appointment? Do you live in a more rural area, or maybe you prefer to just do things Virtually? If so, I can help you through virtual therapy, or telehealth. Telehealth allows me to provide counseling and therapy to my clients via live video conferencing. This can be done anywhere you have a computer or smartphone. Telehealth appointments can be very beneficial if getting to a traditional in-person appointment is not convenient, or you simply just don’t want to. A telehealth solution allows you to schedule an appointment directly online and have the entire therapy session take place digitally. While you don’t need a video camera, I do recommend you use one. To learn more and get started with virtual therapy, please contact me today.

Mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties, can be effectively worked with using telehealth. Many clients prefer online therapy due to convenience, privacy, lower levels of intensity, and the comfort of additional distance and separation. I use secure, HIPAA compliant, video technology from my private office. I use a collaborative and client-centered approach to understand your concerns and support you in finding a path forward.

Teletherapy, also known as online therapy or telehealth, offers numerous benefits and advantages for both therapists and clients. Teletherapy breaks down geographical barriers, allowing clients to access mental health services regardless of their location. This can be especially beneficial for individuals living in rural areas or areas with limited access to mental health resources. Teletherapy also offers convenience, as sessions can be conducted from the comfort of the client's home or any other location with internet access. This eliminates the need for travel time, transportation costs, and scheduling conflicts, making therapy more accessible and manageable for busy individuals.

With technology, you can experience all the benefits of in-person therapy on secure, easy-to-use, high-quality internet platforms. Online sessions allow you to do therapy in the comfort of your own home or allow you flexibility in environments that best suit you. It can be especially helpful to those who find it challenging to travel to an office for appointments due to location, work, children at home, lifestyle, or other practical or personal reasons. While there are multiple ways that counseling can take place online, I work primarily with face-to-face video conferencing via Zoom and, on occasion, telephone sessions. I always hold my sessions in a quiet and confidential space, giving you the same confidentiality & professionalism that you experience within an office setting. Most, if not all, of my clients, find virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient. They allow for the comfort and safety of therapy in your own space, and no travel time is often less vulnerable than needing to go to an office. Research of multiple studies finds that online therapy is equally effective as in-person for most cases. That being said I always advocate for what works best for each individual and it is wonderful to have choices to find your best path whichever that may be. If you are not super-computer savvy or are anxious about how to use technology, I will work to make it as seamless as possible. I have chosen a platform that is easy to use and I am happy to assist you with any questions or concerns. A common concern I hear from clients regarding online therapy is finding a quiet and/or confidential space when you’re homebound with children and/or family members or roommates. Be sure and scope this out in advance so you are guaranteed quiet and privacy during your session. Since it is so convenient many times people forget to allow themselves a few minutes to "switch hats" and allow themselves a few breaths and get settled into being present and in the head/body space for your session. Headphones or Airpods can often make audio clearer or ensure more privacy but are not necessary. Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, sit in their car in the driveway, and/or walk around your neighborhood. Get creative and support yourself. Find a private space that allows you to receive support no matter where you are. You are welcome to have pets join your space if you find that comforting, and supporting, and you may see my fellow feline/canine therapists join in one of our sessions on my end.
