As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Nationally Certified Master Addiction Counselor, I am trained and experienced in treating most any psychological or emotional problem via the psycho-therapeutic process. I believe in using an integrative treatment approach so I can draw upon a variety of psychological modalities and interventions in order to create treatment plans specific my clients' unique needs. I have extensive experience treating the common reasons for which people seek therapy such as depression, anxiety, codependency, OCD, PTSD, alcoholism, drug addiction, and eating disorders. My practice serves various client populations including adults, teens, couples and families. Working with couples is also an important focus in my private practice. Whether couples are dealing with loss of trust, infidelity, parenting differences, financial/career conflicts, intrusive in-laws, angry outbursts or constant arguing, we'll sort it out and I'll teach you how to communicate more effectively, understand one another better, learn to compromise and re-invest in your relationship as a whole. Couples almost always have more to lose than they stand to gain when they are considering divorce or a break up. I'll help you recognize what's most important, align your priorities, let go of resentments and false pride and find your way back to each other. I began my clinical career in New York City working in a crisis intervention center in 1996. My career then took me to California to begin trainee and internships in group homes for teens and in community mental health centers in Pasadena and Monrovia. I next had the honor and the privilege of working with the chronically mentally ill at BHC Alhambra Hospital in Rosemead. I gained a lot of invaluable experience working with schizophrenics, one of the most amazing and misunderstood patient populations. It was an incredibly gratifying and meaningful part of my career. While still at BHC, I was given the opportunity to run the evening Chemical Dependency Program. I later ran the same program at Canyon Ridge Hospital in Chino. Prior to going into private practice, I was the director of the intensive out-patient program at La Puente Mental Health Center. My program serviced the patients with the highest level of acuity and gave me the kind of experience I could not have gained otherwise. Lastly, at a community mental health center in Covina, I ran a Proposition 36 group which treated non-violent drug offenders who were permitted to finish their sentences in the group rather than in prison. Overall, I could not have asked for a better collection of experiences before going into private practice. My practice is a judgment free environment. The mistakes you've made in the past are useful to our process only so you can learn to make better choices going forward. I focus on solutions and give my clients my unconditional positive regard. That's not to say that I will "co-sign" negative and destructive behavior - but I will not judge you. Fear is at the root of all destructive behavior. My job is to help you uncover the fears that are driving dysfunctional behavior and teach you alternatives to destructive impulses. My clients need to feel comfortable being honest with me in the therapeutic process. You will never be "shamed" and you will always be supported and encouraged to do the right thing for you.
