Did you grow up in high-demand religion, such as a small fundamentalist church or an extremely conservative denomination? Has this affected your life in more ways than one, even if you're now an atheist adult? Maybe you still struggle to trust people, or feel like you fit in, or have strained family and romantic relationships.
I've been there, and I can help. Not all therapists understand what religious trauma is like, especially "lower-case 't' trauma" when you can't point to one single explanation for why church was harmful to you. A lot of religious trauma therapists are also Christian; this doesn't mean that they're bad at what they do, but you might feel the need to work with someone from a more agnostic or skeptical worldview.

Treatment Approach
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
- Internal Family Systems
Approach Description: I primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS), which some people refer to as "parts work." Many therapeutic approaches, as well as religions, assume that a person has one dominant way of thinking or feeling. IFS assumes differently. I'll help you to hold all the different parts of yourself; for example, the part of you that values your religious experiences, and the part of you that can't believe you were ever religious in the first place. This way of looking at the psyche can help you to improve your relationship with yourself, as you hold the tension of conflicting feelings and know that it's okay - maybe for the first time ever.
