Ways To Help Your Child Increase Self-Esteem

Parents come together in sharing that one of their main objectives is to raise happy and healthy kids. Part of raising a happy and healthy child is connected to teaching your child how to strengthen self-esteem.

Have you ever sat down with your child to talk to them about their self-esteem?

Questions like.

  • Do you love yourself?
  • Do you ever feel proud of yourself?
  • When you make a mistake how do you treat yourself?

I want to share with you a few ways to support your child in improving their self-esteem.

Below are common signs of low self-esteem children:

  • Low motivation.
  • Not spending time with peers.
  • Bad or negative self-talk.
  • Dislike for oneself.
  • Struggling to focus and concentrate.
  • Trouble sleeping. Such as struggling to sleep or oversleeping.
  • Irregular changes with appetite. Such as eating too much or too little.

How To Teach Your Child To Improve Their Self-Esteem

1. Teach your child how to be their best friend.

You can do this by utilizing a writing activity. Have your child think about their best friend. Someone in their life that they love and are fond of.

Once your child has the person in their mind, have them write down the name of their best friend.

Next, ask your child to write down words that they would give to their best friend. Words that connect to support their friend.

Common examples include:

  • I am proud of you.
  • You are doing awesome.
  • You are loved.
  • I care about you.
  • It’s okay, you can take a break.

As your child writes down words, you as the parent are watching and guiding. The next step is to guide your child to practice the activity.

As time moves forward, keep an eye on your child’s self-esteem. The goal is that this activity over time improves your child’s self-esteem.
