I’m a board certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, and also a board certified Adult Psychiatrist, seeing young children, teenagers, and adults. In general, my approach is to listen carefully, empathetically, to try to understand your situation as well, thoroughly as possible, and then work with you to develop a safe and effective treatment plan in a supportive environment. I believe a comprehensive plan is best, and not to rely solely on medications, although medications can certainly be very helpful in many situations. The goal is to help you with your problems, relieve distress, and thus improve your quality of life.

Approach Description: I believe a careful, empathic evaluation is a cornerstone of appropriate treatment. My aim is to provide a warm, welcoming environment, and foster collaboration in developing an individualized treatment plan. For medications it’s usually best to “start low and go slow.”

I’ve always been dedicated to providing the best care possible. I feel my prior work experience has helped me with this goal. After completing my ten years of medical training in 1992, having a passion for patient care and medical education, for many years I worked mostly in academic treatment centers. I was faculty in the medical schools of Harvard and Tufts Universities, and then returned to California where I was faculty at the University of California and USC for many years. For several years I’ve been board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, General Adult Psychiatry, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (which is the Psychiatry specialty of providing psychiatric care to people who also have serious physical medical problems).
I’ve worked in many settings including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, telepsychiatry, emergency rooms, and medical/surgical units. My experience includes working with most diagnoses, including treating depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, psychoses, loss/trauma, and autism. I’m now in private practice in Marina Del Rey, California. Please call me at no charge at (310) 750-8348 if you think I may be able to be of assistance to you.
