I am a Somatic Psychotherapist. The word somatic comes from the Greek "Soma" meaning "the living body". As a Somatic Psychotherapist, I believe that mind and body are not separate, but rather integrated and fundamentally interrelated. In other words, your thoughts, emotions and physical experiences are intimately connected, and together contribute to the way you understand and relate to yourself and others,
My approach to working with you in the therapeutic process is respectful, accepting and empathic. This safe and strictly confidential relationship provides the opportunity for you to explore problems and issues and patterns of behaviour such as: issues with relationships, conflicts at work, parenting challenges, life choices, achieving goals, depression, anxiety, self esteem, negative feelings, destructive patterns of behaviour, stress, trauma, grief, anger, shame and despair. You can be supported in the process of transformational change and growth. I work verbally with clients, but can also incorporate therapeutic touch when appropriate.
During my three year Diploma of Contemporary Somatic Psychotherapy I became particularly interested in Self-Psychology, Intersubjectivity, Attachment Theory, Trauma Theory, and Neuroscience - especially the links between neurobiological changes and the therapeutic process. These are the foundations of my practice which I can support with the use of body-oriented therapies including therapeutic touch and massage.
