I have been in private practice as a psychotherapist since 2016. It took me a while to find where I fit in the world and develop who I am before I found counselling. My tagline "Not all wounds are visible" speaks directly to who I am as a therapist as I have also been through depression and anxiety. I have lived experience with different forms of mental illness and I am trained in suicide intervention and postvention. If life is pulling you down, your marriage or relationship is not going the way you dreamed, anxiety, depression, grief or mental illness is too much for you, call me, I had to learn to trust and I am confident that I walk alongside you to guide and support as you navigate sometimes overwhelming situations, thoughts and feelings,

First Step Counselling came about from my own need to be there for others and to help and support them. It started over 20 years ago when, as a teacher's aide I was unable to help one of my students. Not because of the rules of the school but because I didn't have the words or the skill to be there for her or even say what she needed or not say anything. Over the last 20 years, I have worked to complete my diploma and study as much as I can to equip myself so that I am not again in that situation of helplessness. I am now a trained supervisor and completed my Graduate Diploma but I haven't finished studying and learning so as to develop a counselling practice of genuine person-centred respect, honesty, integrity and excellence. The ethos of First Step Counselling is to be the best we can be, as counsellors and as a caring business. To this end continural education on modalities and issues to keep up with the latest research.
