Kim Colna is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 13 years of experience providing evidence based mental health services to children, adults, and families to include diagnostic assessment, individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Kim utilizes a variety of treatment modalities as clinically indicated such as, (but not limited to) Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Play Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), and solution focused therapy combined with a strength based approach to help her patients and families achieve their desired goals.
Kim has extensive experience in treating pediatric and adult Anxiety, OCD, ADHD, Trauma/PTSD, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Substance Use Disorders, mental health conditions secondary to a chronic illness, Conversion and Functional Disorders, Eating Disorders, and Psychosis. Most recently, Kim has been dedicating the majority of her time in private practice specializing in pediatric and young adult OCD and Anxiety utilizing CBT with ERP and family therapy as appropriate.
Kim has a demonstrated history of providing quality patient care in a variety of clinical and academic settings to include hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, residential/rehabilitation treatment facilities, nursing homes, outpatient clinics, schools, correctional facilities, community and home based services. In addition to her work at Wellcova Health, Kim is also affiliated with Pediatric Mental Health Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine where Kim has worked for the last 7 years in the outpatient, inpatient, emergency and consultative department. Prior to 2014, Kim worked at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia in a similar capacity before relocating to Colorado. With that said, Kim continues to work at Children’s Hospital Colorado on a limited basis on a multi-disciplinary team on the Psychiatry Consultation and Liaison Service where she provides clinical services to children who are medically ill with a comorbid or contributing mental health condition. Along with direct clinical care, Kim has a passion for learning and teaching, She values the importance of continued education and research for mental health providers and is affiliated with the University of Denver as an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Social Work. In her free time Kim enjoys spending time outdoors skiing and riding horses and enjoying the mountains of Colorado as well as travelling with friends and family.
