Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
  • Emotionally Focused (EFT)
  • Family Systems
  • Feminist
  • Multicultural
  • Psychoeducational
  • Psychosocial
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
  • Somatic
Approach Description: CBT: I help clients become conscious of, and recognize, the cognitive distortions that produce problematic behavioral patterns. As a result, clients can more effectively build resilience; better engage in emotional regulation; and, gain personal agency. EFT: I help emotionally distressed couples reconnect, restructure, and repair their relationships by understanding the disconnection caused by negative interaction patterns. Family Systems: I help families become conscious of the ways in which the parts/patterns of their group dynamics create dynamics based on several factors: relationship dynamics between people within the family; parental projection; sibling birth order; etc. Recognition of the ways these dynamics can produce unhealthy behaviours and coping styles can begin to open up opportunities to develop support between family members. When families learn new ways to support each other, they begin to restore and rebuild healthy family systems. Feminist: Intentionally considering the social, political, and cultural context of a client’s experience, I help those who have been marginalized due to their positionality (people of color; LGBTQIA+; people in poverty, immigrants, refugees, and people with disabilities. Multicultural: Intentionally considering the social, cultural, and political positionality of the client, I help people from co-cultures address concerns whose race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, income, disability status, or other social factor(s) falls outside of the dominant society and the norms of Whiteness. Psychoeducational: I help clients understand their diagnosis, symptoms, or method of treatment used by providing accessible, current information. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: I help clients search through life experience and behavioral experiences to discover and co-construct practical and sustainable solutions they can implement in their everyday lives. Somatic: I help clients heal the mind-body connection through exercises and other physical techniques that help release pent-up tension negatively affecting their physical and emotional wellbeing.
