Lisa Lund, Certified Gottman Couple Therapist (She/Her)

Marriage and Family Therapist, MFT
therapist: Lisa Lund, Certified Gottman Couple Therapist,
In-Person in Cary, NC
In-Person in Kentfield, CA
My passion is helping couples repair their relationships. I’ve been a psychotherapist for 25 years and have worked with many populations but I find couple’s work to be most rewarding. I like the energy and the challenge of holding two differing points of view without judgment (and teaching couples to do the same). I use evidence based methods because I believe too much of couples therapy has been based on someone’s opinion of what a good relationship looks like, rather than on what research with real couples tells us works. I often tell my clients they don’t need to go to “couple nirvana” to heal. Evidence based studies tell us there aren’t any perfect couples. All couples are welcome to my practice regardless of sexual orientation or ethnicity. I believe all relationships are cross-cultural in that we all bring unique backgrounds to our union. What I don’t know I’m open to learning from you.

Treatment Approach

  • Emotionally Focused (EFT)
  • Gottman Method
Approach Description: I am primarily trained in Gottman method couples therapy and emotionally focused couples therapy. but I've studied many approaches over the years. I like to think that I have many tools in my belt that I pull out based on the moment. Whatever tool I use is designed for the couple to have a "moment" with each other. The work is primarily "dyadic" meaning the couple is talking to each other. If one or both people are dealing with a comorbidity such as substance use disorder or depression or adhd than we will discuss in session how this diagnosis affects you as a couple.

Lisa Lund, Certified Gottman Couple Therapist Practice Description
At A Couple's Place I practice Gottman Method* Couples Therapy, which is based on Dr. John Gottman’s research that began in the 1970’s and continues to this day. The research has focused on what makes marriages or committed relationships succeed or fail. From this research, Drs. John and Julie Gottman have created a method of therapy and counseling that emphasizes a grounded and realistic approach to improving couple relationships. This method is designed to help teach specific tools and skills to deepen friendship and intimacy in your relationship. To help you productively manage conflicts, you will be given methods to manage resolvable problems and dialogue about gridlocked (or perpetual) issues. We will also work together to help you appreciate your relationship's strengths and to gently navigate through its vulnerabilities. Couples will receive a relationship assessment, feedback and treatment plan. I work with couples in crisis, couples wanting a tune up and couples wanting pre-marital counseling. I offer weekly sessions and weekend couple counseling retreats.
