Approach Description: There are two ways to talk about "approaches" to therapy. One way is about which famous psychologists are the role model for the counselor. My role models are Carl Rogers and Julie Gottman. Another way to describe my approach is to look at which theories or methods I use the most. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the "gold standard" supported by the most research. I use this strongly in the beginning of the process, then I always come back to it as a "touchstone." For emotional self-regulation, aka stress-reduction, I offer my clients several techniques to increase body awareness and access the parasympathetic nervous system. Emotional Freedom Technique is a favorite. Visualization and breathwork are standard tools. One thing is for sure: you will gain Insight by doing this work. You will also have more compassion for yourself and others. As you get healthier and less anxious, your will power returns. Then, many of your long-held goals become possible again.
