As a therapist that has been licensed for 25 years, I've learned a ton about what works in therapy. When I was a new therapist, I utilized an amazing amount of energy to assure my clients were successful. During the years that followed, I've learned that success in therapy has so much more to do than from my effort as a therapist. While that is still super important, the other keys that more important include, but are not limited to, whether you actually like and feel supported by your therapist. Next, that he/she genuine, caring, and real. And lastly, that after you know your therapist well you feel safe in asking to dig deeper in meeting your therapy goals. Yes progress is awesome. Progress that is deeper and long-lasting is likely more important. That said, what are some of the key challenges/problems that I specialize in.
*Working with couples that truly want an emotionally safe and deep connection is one.
*Working with clients that have fallen into escaping through food, online gaming, sex, etc., is another
*Working with clients that have lost motivation, happiness, and hope is yet another that is increasingly more common
*Working with clients that have challenges from their past such as being raised by controlling and high expectation parents is for sure another
*Working with clients that are pleasers or want to rescue others is definitely one that is super common in Utah today
