Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT
You have just taken a small, ginormous step in healing your sense of self. To reach out for help is a BIG declaration of "I am worth it," "I can live a freer life, a kinder to myself life." I am so appreciative of your courage at this very moment. Together, we'll reflect on other times you've taken these small, ginormous steps in recognizing your sense of self, as well as, your intrinsic sense of self-worth. We'll get to know the painful, and, the uplifting messages that tend to echo in your mind, body, and spirit. We'll discover the parts of you that are really holding true to these different messages, and, we'll learn new roles for these parts that are more helpful to you now. There will be time for story-telling and for story-rewriting. We'll heal stories known in word memory, as well as, the stories known only in your body. You'll be the director, and I'll be right there with you paving paths, highlighting different options on the journey towards a more confident posture as you live your most genuine life--being known, safely, by yourself and others.

Self-esteem is the degree to which we feel worthy, valuable and confident in any particular moment in time. Without the proper skill-set, these feelings or beliefs can significantly affect our well-being and social interactions. Low self-esteem is associated with feelings of self-criticism, self-doubt, shame, social isolation, sadness, guilt, and suppressed anger. Low self-esteem is also commonly a symptom of several mental health conditions including depression and anxiety.

Many people struggle with knowing and valuing themselves. My goal is to offer a safe and empathetic space for you to explore who you are, who you used to be, who you want to be, and how those integrate. It can be difficult to connect with others, especially when you don’t feel connected with yourself. You’re infested with thoughts and worries that make you hesitate from doing things that are good for you. You’re scared of how others will treat you, and you aren’t sure how to handle difficult conversations and situations. You’re scared to embrace change and the consequences that come with it. I Will Help You: Learn practical skills to overcome the fear and anxiety that make you hesitate from growing. Align your life with your values. Develop a strong, positive sense of self that is balanced and well-rounded. Incorporate healthy habits that evolve into a natural life style. Know yourself, be yourself, and love yourself. Loss of identity can lead to self esteem issues. Throughout our lives we morph into different identities, with some phases of life, like motherhood or a demanding job causing us to lose sight of who we are. This can lead to depression and anxiety. I am strength based and will help you locate and build on your strengths, while changing the parts that aren’t working. I want you to access the best version of yourself, to feel grounded and confident and mostly to feel like you.

West Hollywood, California therapist: Dr. Ingrid Solano, psychologist

Dr. Ingrid Solano

Psychologist, PhD
I work with both adults and adolescents on an individual basis. Individual psychotherapy helps clients deal with particular issues, symptoms, and stressors. My goal is to provide a safe, non judgmental space for you to explore who you are, how you relate to others, and what supports you on your journey to become your best self. I lean into, listen, understand, and enhance authentic expression. Together we create a collaborative process of transformation. What that means and what that looks like is different for everyone... I offer evidence-based therapies from a curious, nonjudgmental philosophy. No matter where you have been, evidence-based therapies focus on changing the now. I strive to help my clients experience the world mindfully, and in accordance with their personal values. Through our work in cultivating an affirming, authentic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, I provide support while we collaboratively deconstruct what is causing distress in your life and preventing you from being your most effective and authentic self. Individual therapy facilitates insight and growth, becoming more effective at actualizing your values, and building more authentic relationships with yourself and with others. While there are many forms of therapy you can pursue, my expertise is in time-limited, evidence-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT), the Unified Protocol for emotional disorders, and third wave CBT such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness based interventions. (I do have experience in, and practice, an eclectic arrangement of other modalities as well-- when applicable or specifically requested.) We explore thoughts, beliefs, and understanding, while also prioritizing behavioral processes that focus on your contexts and the functions of how you relate to your internal experiences. CBT is designed to help individuals notice and shift their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to get relief from painful emotions such as anxiety and sadness. Third wave interventions also promote well-being through developing coping skills, personal values, and metacognition that complement traditional CBT interventions. I provide flexible, customizable approaches that look different with each patient. I empower my clients to discover their strength, clarity, creativity, autonomy, resilience, motivation, and confidence in meeting whatever happens next. I provide individualized tools to use in everyday decision-making that will help those changes last. With these modalities I treat individuals who are impacted by depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship distress, burnout, divorce, loss, uncertainty, stigma, and other life experiences, diagnoses, and stressors. We explore the sources, experiences, and beliefs that impact how you relate with the world and implement change in your life. You are the expert on you, but are you your most effective and content self?

The way we see ourselves is the lens through which we engage in the world around us. Poor self-esteem and feelings of being broken or inadequate triggers sadness or anxiety. On top of that, though, holding a low opinion of ourselves affects the choices we make, too. We may avoid socializing or putting ourselves out there for a big promotion. In our work together, we will examine these negative beliefs and improve your relationship with yourself.
