Get results without going to the office! Access all our dynamic services (Individual Therapy for adults, Holistic and integrative Psychiatry, Life Optimization, and Performance & Creativity Enhancement) – to go! Telemedicine (video-based) allows for online counseling and services from the convenience of your home, office, or hotel (as long as it is in a state where we are licensed). This method of care can help you feel at ease in settings better matched to your personality, schedule, and lifestyle. We have provided online therapy options since 2017 - before the pandemic enabled it as a mainstream service - and are therefore well-versed in both helping you feel comfortable and see desired results through this digital session option. Telemedicine is a great option for the following reasons: * You want a specialized expert * It is convenient for your schedule and lifestyle * You or your child suddenly feel sick so now you can’t make it to your in-office appointment * You live in a rural community with limited access to mental health providers * You want to maintain your regular session schedule when traveling We can talk through online video calls (accessible from laptops, phones, or tablets) to work on your goals from nearly anywhere!

Talking to someone new can be a scary and overwhelming experience, and doing so virtually even more so. Online therapy can be just as effective as in person therapy and you can have that same connection with your therapist! Whether you feel anxious, depressed, stressed or any other way you do not want to, online therapy may be right for you! It's important to not feel judged when talking about the things that are causing us stress or pain in our lives. It's also important that we are supported in a compassionate manner. These are a few of the things that you can expect when in session with me; a compassionate, nonjudgemental and supportive ear. You can also expect goals and sessions tailored to your individual needs. I do not believe that one form of treatment works for everyone, which is why I practice an integrative approach that utilizes many different tools and techniques in order to tailor your treatment specifically to you. There does not have to be something "wrong" with you in order to seek services. Some people come to me because they are worried all the time about things they do not need to worry about, some come because they are bad at focusing, some come because they are feeling down or hopeless, some come because they have decided to address a trauma they experienced, and some come because they are stressed over life changes. There is no right or wrong reason or time to come see me. I am ready to provide you the support you need now and in the future.

With technology, you can experience all the benefits of in-person therapy on secure, easy-to-use, high-quality internet platforms. Online sessions allow you to do therapy in the comfort of your own home or allow you flexibility in environments that best suit you. It can be especially helpful to those who find it challenging to travel to an office for appointments due to location, work, children at home, lifestyle, or other practical or personal reasons. While there are multiple ways that counseling can take place online, I work primarily with face-to-face video conferencing via Zoom and, on occasion, telephone sessions. I always hold my sessions in a quiet and confidential space, giving you the same confidentiality & professionalism that you experience within an office setting. Most, if not all, of my clients, find virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient. They allow for the comfort and safety of therapy in your own space, and no travel time is often less vulnerable than needing to go to an office. Research of multiple studies finds that online therapy is equally effective as in-person for most cases. That being said I always advocate for what works best for each individual and it is wonderful to have choices to find your best path whichever that may be. If you are not super-computer savvy or are anxious about how to use technology, I will work to make it as seamless as possible. I have chosen a platform that is easy to use and I am happy to assist you with any questions or concerns. A common concern I hear from clients regarding online therapy is finding a quiet and/or confidential space when you’re homebound with children and/or family members or roommates. Be sure and scope this out in advance so you are guaranteed quiet and privacy during your session. Since it is so convenient many times people forget to allow themselves a few minutes to "switch hats" and allow themselves a few breaths and get settled into being present and in the head/body space for your session. Headphones or Airpods can often make audio clearer or ensure more privacy but are not necessary. Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, sit in their car in the driveway, and/or walk around your neighborhood. Get creative and support yourself. Find a private space that allows you to receive support no matter where you are. You are welcome to have pets join your space if you find that comforting, and supporting, and you may see my fellow feline/canine therapists join in one of our sessions on my end.

Los Angeles, California therapist: Susan Stone, marriage and family therapist
Eclectic

Susan Stone

Marriage and Family Therapist, M.A., Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I work with adults from every walk of life and in diverse circumstances. The common thread: things don't feel manageable anymore. Life has gotten out of hand, and feelings like anxiety, self-doubt, depression, and disappointment seem to be taking over – if they haven’t already. Some might think they are “going crazy!” Others feel selfish because they crave self-care and a break from never being enough. My job (and privilege) is to come alongside you to provide support, feedback, and help you better understand things and make plans to improve things. Sometimes, I will validate feelings that you’ve discounted or point out challenges you’ve grown so accustomed to that you brush them aside, even though they are part of what trips you up. Together, we’ll gain perspectives and insights about how to make things better. Sessions will be via telehealth (live video). While it can take a little getting used to for those accustomed to in-person sessions, the ease of access and being in a space that is familiar and comfortable goes a long way to make up for the distance. Many find that having ready access to their online notes and journals, screen sharing, and the ability to look up information together in session provides extra benefits. As for rapport and connectedness, video therapy doesn’t need to impede these critical features of the therapeutic relationship. In session, we will review the week for clues about what to focus on. We will talk about how things went and how they could have turned out better. I’ll ask many questions, listen a lot, and work with you to identify options for improving life. You’ll tear up sometimes, but you’ll be surprised how often we chuckle.
