Psychologist, Ph.D.
Asking for help is challenging enough, and I believe that the online format removes some of the other stressors normally associated with beginning therapy. One of the most important "ingredients" for success in therapy is feeling comfortable in the therapy setting. With online therapy, clients enjoy the convenience of meeting with me from wherever they feel most comfortable. Online therapy also eliminates the need for a commute to an office or sitting in a waiting area. With some of the stress eliminated, we can really get to work!

Karen Queller
Art Therapist, M.A Expressive Arts Therapy
Many people wonder how Expressive Arts Therapy works online. Through my experience I can say that it truly does. Being in your own home allows you to find resources in your natural environment that are available to you, making the therapeutic process feel more integrated into your daily life..... which is where all the magic happens anyways ;)

With technology, you can experience all the benefits of in-person therapy on secure, easy-to-use, high-quality internet platforms. Online sessions allow you to do therapy in the comfort of your own home or allow you flexibility in environments that best suit you. It can be especially helpful to those who find it challenging to travel to an office for appointments due to location, work, children at home, lifestyle, or other practical or personal reasons.
While there are multiple ways that counseling can take place online, I work primarily with face-to-face video conferencing via Zoom and, on occasion, telephone sessions.
I always hold my sessions in a quiet and confidential space, giving you the same confidentiality & professionalism that you experience within an office setting.
Most, if not all, of my clients, find virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient. They allow for the comfort and safety of therapy in your own space, and no travel time is often less vulnerable than needing to go to an office. Research of multiple studies finds that online therapy is equally effective as in-person for most cases. That being said I always advocate for what works best for each individual and it is wonderful to have choices to find your best path whichever that may be.
If you are not super-computer savvy or are anxious about how to use technology, I will work to make it as seamless as possible. I have chosen a platform that is easy to use and I am happy to assist you with any questions or concerns.
A common concern I hear from clients regarding online therapy is finding a quiet and/or confidential space when you’re homebound with children and/or family members or roommates. Be sure and scope this out in advance so you are guaranteed quiet and privacy during your session.
Since it is so convenient many times people forget to allow themselves a few minutes to "switch hats" and allow themselves a few breaths and get settled into being present and in the head/body space for your session.
Headphones or Airpods can often make audio clearer or ensure more privacy but are not necessary.
Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, sit in their car in the driveway, and/or walk around your neighborhood. Get creative and support yourself. Find a private space that allows you to receive support no matter where you are.
You are welcome to have pets join your space if you find that comforting, and supporting, and you may see my fellow feline/canine therapists join in one of our sessions on my end.

You went through something horrific, and you thought you had dealt with it, you thought you could handle it on your own, but it keeps popping its little head up in your current life and relationships. Overwhelming emotional pain weighs on you. The emotional pain shows up as physical pain too - a literal heartache, muscle aches, or back pain. You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and have for a very long time. Exhausted, you worry that your life will never be the same. The fear gnaws at you sometimes that maybe you will never get out from under this boulder of responsibility and heartache.
You deserve to find your footing, and discover healing and meaning in life again. Making a full recovery is not out of reach. If you want to not just move on, but move forward, I’d love to help you get there. I offer online therapy so you can get the help you need after work or while the baby goes down for a nap.
Finding the right therapist is hard. I have made my process as simple as possible. I offer 24/7 scheduling on my website for a free phone consultation. You can also reach out using my contact info above. Don't suffer through this alone. Take that first step and reach out today!
