Cook Counseling and Consulting Inc.
Counselor/Therapist, LISW-S, LCSW-QS, CCTP
Christian counseling, also known as biblical counseling or Christian therapy, combines psychological and therapeutic techniques with Christian faith, principles, and teachings. It is administered by professionals in mental health who are also trained in Christian theology and ethics. Christian counseling seeks to assist individuals in addressing their emotional, psychological, and relational difficulties while incorporating their Christian beliefs and values into the therapeutic process.
Christian counseling is not a substitute for traditional mental health therapy or medical treatment. Instead, it provides an additional option for those who wish to investigate their challenges within the Christian worldview. If you or someone you know is interested in Christian counseling, it is imperative to locate a qualified Christian counselor who shares your beliefs and can provide the necessary support and guidance.

Renovating Hope Counseling, LLC
Licensed Professional Counselor, MAEd, LPC
Often, as individuals reflect on the journey of their lives, it seems as if the story they are living is not the story they had hoped to find themselves in. Heartache from the past, and even anxiety promoted by an uncertain future can serve to distort one’s view of oneself and the unfolding story. Kristen generally approaches therapy from an integrative philosophy, looking at all facets of an individual. Watching God use brokenness to move people toward redemption and wholeness is one of my greatest privileges as a therapist.

I am a Christian, and I understand the hesitation among us about going to therapy. However, your church may not be able to provide the level of care you will get from working with a licensed therapist. Spirituality is a very important aspect of existence, and I am very respectful of yours. Give me an opportunity to demonstrate how we can work together, bringing faith into the process.

Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, LPC
You want to address this pain, but it feels all on you. You can't go to counseling and sacrifice your beliefs. But the pain keeps mounting and prayer isn't working. Finding a counselor who shares the same beliefs can be challenging. It's hard to find that right fit, let alone make sure they are comfortable with talking about God. After all, he is the ultimate healer. No matter your faith background it's my hope you grow close to God. We will invite him into this process together. We can't forget the most important aspect to your life.

Dr. Abrielle Conway, Rooted in Grace Psychological Services
Psychologist, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist
Do you find yourself questioning your faith? Wondering whether your faith is strong enough or if God still sees and loves you? Please know that you're not alone. Depression, anxiety, and traumatic experiences can impact your thoughts, even your thoughts about God and who you are as a believer with these struggles. Too often, we see condemnation from the church about mental illness being related to lack of faith. However, several individuals who are revered by the church as saints (Mother Theresa is one example) have shared struggles in their faith and their tendency toward depression.
A significant portion of my training has included working with individuals with a Christian background (involved in volunteer and occupational Christian ministry, trained in Stephen Ministry, PREPARE/ENRICH, Hope Focused Couples Therapy, wrote a dissertation on the relationship between one's God-image and forgiveness, and served as a consultant to pastors on mental health issues).
Recently, I've become interested in helping others heal from religious trauma and spiritual abuse. Unfortunately, religion has sometimes been used to intimidate and exert power over others. This can happen from the pulpit or within personal relationships with others. In these situations, survivors can develop not only symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, but significant confusion surrounding their identity, their purpose, God's character, and their own standing with God. Please know that when we work together, I am sensitive to this possibility, and I will always follow your lead in discussing matters of faith. I will not attempt to lead you in one direction over the other, as you are capable of making your own decisions. I will, however, listen and support you as you navigate this often bumpy terrain.
Mental health concerns and negative religious experiences are nothing to be ashamed of, and only by acknowledging them within a safe space can there be true healing. Keep in mind that there is no problem too big to overcome. Even if the future looks bleak, remember that hope and healing are possible.
