Broken Gold Counseling, Ltd.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, MACP, MSW, RCSW
********WE ARE OFFERING A VIRTUAL 12 WEEK DBT SKILLS GROUP STARTING 09 JAN 2025 FOR RESIDENTS OF AB, ON, NS. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE CONTACT US FOR FURTHER DETAILS******** Life is a journey comprised of the choices we make. We all have the ability to change course at any time by making different choices. No one is stuck, and no one has to be a victim to their past, their mistakes or feel trapped by their behaviors. Even our mistakes or tragedies we have experienced, have the power to transform us in brilliant and beautiful ways, if we chose to take responsibility. Our practice is based on the idea of Kintsukuroi. This is the Japanese art of pottery repair, in which broken pieces of pottery are mended using precious metals. The resulting piece is often more beautiful than it was before it was broken. Its cracks make it unique, and the shining way it has been mended now becomes a valuable feature. We believe that difficult times do not have to break us, but can help us grow, and our cracks can become opportunities to mend ourselves back together in beautiful ways. Our cracks can be reminders that even broken things can still be golden.

Forouz Salari

Registered Social Worker, MA, MSW, RSW
I am a white-passing, Middle-Eastern, bisexual, cis-gender, neurotypical woman and a first-generation immigrant and settler (who came to Canada as a refugee, during childhood). I’ve also lived through experiences of trauma, displacement, mental illness, divorce, chronic illness and chronic pain. So, I know what it’s like to feel lost, confused, doubtful, overwhelmed, frustrated, misunderstood, lonely, exhausted, and just not good enough! I know the effort and energy it takes to step into and embrace a journey of self-discovery, healing and growth, not knowing where it might lead. I also know how incredibly transformative it can be! That must be why you're here too - ready and looking for something in your life to change for the better. I'm here to help! Let's get started together: Go to my website and click on "Book Online" to schedule a free 15-min phone consult with me!

Kim Silverthorn - Tacit Knowledge

Counsellor/Therapist, B.A., R.P.C., M.P.C.C., C.T.
Life can be hard sometimes and we all find ourselves needing a little support in those difficult moments. Reaching out is often the hardest part of the process. Tacit Knowledge can help - we offer individual and couples counselling to teens and to adults. All of our services are available in-person and online - and are available to everyone, all across Canada. I am Kim Silverthorn BA, RPC, MPCC, CT - I am the owner and primary therapist at Tacit, and my office is located in Beaumont. I offer a variety of traditional and holistic counselling supports for adults and for teens/youth. I provide an empathetic and confidential atmosphere in my counselling office, as I assist individuals, couples and family’s in addressing some of the more emotionally difficult issues in their lives. I also provide Professional Development Training to various agencies and organizations, helping staff enhance the skills they use in their own workplaces on a daily basis. And I provide excellent community based programming/courses for those in the general public who may not yet be able to access the training that I offer, through their places of employment. I believe in providing my clients with the support they need on an individual basis - as part of your family - and/or with your bigger work team. I get to know you by first understanding the challenges you are facing from your perspective – and I help you come from a place of confidence and strength as you overcome those challenges in a successful and healthy way.

Edmonton, Alberta therapist: Open Sky Mental Health, psychologist
Narrative

Open Sky Mental Health

Psychologist, Registered Psychologist
It is hard to be a human being sometimes. No matter how hard we try there are just moments in every life that feel impossible. These are the moments when we need safe, kind, non-judgmental support to explore the thoughts and feelings that seem too hard. I take gentleness very seriously and I am deeply grateful to be able to walk alongside people in those moments. My work is rooted in the practices of meditation and self-compassion and the belief that there is a way through every kind of suffering.

Wetaskiwin, Alberta therapist: Lorna Barnes, Oak Tree Counselling, licensed professional counselor
Narrative

Lorna Barnes, Oak Tree Counselling

Licensed Professional Counsellor, CT, CPC
I find clients are looking to understand themselves, to find reasons they struggle the way they do, and discover how they got where they are. We've all been influenced by our experiences, whether good or bad. Good healthy experiences give us the tools and confidence to navigate life, but what happens when our experiences have been far from good? A child experiencing abuse, trauma, loss, and neglect believes they deserve it or it's their fault, not knowing the adults in their lives are responsible to help them feel secure and confident. Negative childhood experiences often throw individuals into feeling too much responsibility, becoming people pleasers, carrying much shame and guilt, feeling like a burden, social awkwardness, experiencing cognitive distortions, depression, addictions, loss of identity, anxiety and panic disorders, inter-relational problems, lack of confidence, and a lack of boundaries. Clients need to know they're not to blame and there's hope to experience a healthier and purposeful life, the life they were meant to have. Clients need to know they belong, they matter and are not a mistake. If you want to find freedom, purpose, contentment, and healing schedule a 30 minute free consultation to explore whether we'd be a good fit to journey together to a better you.
