Personally, I understand what it is like to grow up in a difficult family which resulted in much trauma. As a young adult, I made a series of problematic choices which included abusive relationships, alcohol and drug abuse, and general neglect of myself. I realized that my trauma was not my fault but healing from it, so that I no longer suffered and passed that suffering onto others, was my responsibility.
