Toronto, Ontario therapist: Philip Starkman, registered psychotherapist
Anxiety or Fears

Philip Starkman

Registered Psychotherapist, MSW, RSW
In my practice, I provide a supportive space for clients dealing with anxiety or fear, combining a range of holistic strategies and psychotherapeutic tools to address each individual's needs. Techniques like Mindfulness, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Role-Playing are complemented by guidance on wholesome lifestyle choices—including nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi. These integrated approaches help clients understand the roots of their anxiety, manage symptoms, and develop coping strategies that promote a sense of calm and control. Focusing on the connection between mind, body, and lifestyle, we work together to reduce the intensity of fear and anxiety, enhancing overall well-being and quality of life. My role is to guide and empower you on this journey, providing the tools and insights needed to embrace a more peaceful, balanced, and fulfilling life.

Anxiety or Fears

Dr. Lynn E. O'Connor

Therapist, PhD
Working with clients suffering from anxiety, I provide supportive and educational psychotherapy while --in collaboration with my clients-- introducing them to exposure and response prevention methods. I usually encourage clients to obtain a medical evaluation to consider psychotropic medications, such as serotonergic agents. Integrating methods from CBT, the biological sciences, and humanistic perspectives, as a student of Buddhism, I also offer experience with mindfulness meditation and other contemplative approaches in conjunction with self-compassion in accordance with clients' interests.

Irvine, California therapist: Dr. David Shapiro, psychologist
Anxiety or Fears

Dr. David Shapiro

Psychologist, California Licensed Psychologist (License# PSY17495)
Anxiety is a very common issue I assist clients in gaining mastery of. A foundational assumption I follow is that it is helpful to assist clients in engaging with their fears rather than denying them, or invalidating them. This understanding is supported by research in a variety of areas, including behavioral therapy, which has shown that in order to desensitize an anxious response individuals benefit from exposure so long as it is done in way that the person is not overwhelmed. From a Cognitive Therapy perspective I have also come to appreciate that very often people's anxieties are fueled by extreme interpretations and beliefs they may be having related to the fear or anxiety. From Mindfulness approaches I have come to understand the value of shifting into an observer position through observing and describing, and I have come to appreciate how this ability represents developing greater integration of the mature executive functions of the frontal lobe with the primitive survival impulses of the limbic system. The ways that I make use of these understandings with each client vary based upon the difficulties they are having with anxiety and fear, but overall I tend to support my clients in finding healthy ways to settle themselves down physiologically and then helping them to engage with their fears, the related thoughts and beliefs they have, and to not be held back from taking actions that are in their best interests based upon fears. Sometimes this involves helping clients learn meditative skills. Sometimes it involves helping them to plan out and then carry out steps in confronting fears. Sometimes it involves reprocessing traumas or anxiety producing situations in a controlled way. Sometimes it involves working with them to find new ways of thinking. Usually, in fact, I find that a combination of these is most helpful but again this is guided by each client, their situation, preferences, strengths, etc.

Munich, Bavaria therapist: Jean-Marie Bottequin, life coach
Anxiety or Fears

Jean-Marie Bottequin

Life Coach, WAPP
Autophobia Loneliness is a very sensitive and current problem of the human soul, which affects all of us, regardless of wealth, intellectual level or academic degree. There is no person who can claim to have never experienced this special, sometimes painful, but sometimes very deep and beautiful inner state. Problematic relationships are not reasons for, but the consequence of loneliness I work with the lower part of the iceberg, which is not immediately recognizable and understandable. So if we want to know true love and friendship, if we want to feel this happiness of being understood, of being "on the same wavelength" with other people, then we ourselves have to solve deep problems that are connected to the needs of our own soul.
