Stress is a huge 6 letter word that gets thrown around frequently, but how do we actually manage it? It isn't as simple as going to the spa or squeezing a stress ball. All of the resources I am trained in teaching people allow us to manage stress in a far more effective way. Stress management and self-care is essential, and the practice of that is something we can work on together. This wasn't something that was taught in schools, but that is okay, we can learn now.

Many people find life to be very stressful. Much anxiety comes from trying to do too much, or meet the expectations of others, or a negative mindset about what's ahead. I work with clients to explore their beliefs, and where they come from. Then, it's important to choose about what matters to You, and begin focusing on activities and people who matter to You. Setting clear intentions, changing behaviors, and being mindful of self care are helpful strategies.

S. Abigail McCarrel : Welcome Home Family Therapy
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, DCSW
Stress is pretty much the hottest buzz word in mental health these days and that is for a good reason. Never have families and children been under more stress in their lives than right now. As a result, families are falling apart. Technology and screen time has filled the gap, which only contributes to an increased stress response in the brain. To help families manage this stress, we look closely at screen time in the family and gently bring in limits that make sense for the child's development. We carve out time for parents and children to play together to increase trust and connection. We also learn to practice self-compassion, which helps to build everyone’s window of tolerance. Most importantly, however, we go back and integrate primitive reflexes that are getting in the way of handling stress in a more consistent, regulated way. My primitive reflex integration work is a brain balance program that grows connections in the lower parts of the brain. This helps to create a foundation for a more resilient mind. So, together, we will get moving, have fun and grow some new connections.
