Grass Valley, California therapist: Jessi Blank, licensed professional counselor
Trauma and PTSD

Jessi Blank

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPCC
As a trained and certified integrative somatic trauma therapist, I help clients with history of trauma and PTSD learn how to better move through their various traumas by imploring a "bottom up" method. I start to familiarize my clients with their bodies- teaching them that the body (soma) holds memory of trauma before the brain conceptualizes it. I allow my clients to become familiar with the language of their body by exploring the various sensations they notice and how different stressors show up in their body. I help my clients to become more empowered by helping them map out their nervous system states, making them feel a bit more in control of their own process towards healing the residue that trauma often leaves behind.

Los Angeles, California therapist: Babak Max Karimbeik, marriage and family therapist
Trauma and PTSD

Babak Max Karimbeik

Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT
Research has shown that exposure to traumatic events early in life can have many negative effects throughout childhood and adolescence and into adulthood. Children who suffer from child traumatic stress are those who have been exposed to one or more traumas over the course of their lives and develop reactions that persist and affect their daily lives after the traumatic events have ended. Traumatic events can include witnessing or experiencing physical or sexual abuse, violence in families and communities, loss of a loved one, refugee and war experiences, living with a family member whose caregiving ability is impaired, and having a life-threatening injury or illness. If you haven't had any traumatic events until recently eliminating your trauma/PTSD symptoms is a much easier process. When you experience trauma you're more likely to think from the survival part of your brain. When traumatized individuals are in their Survival Brains, you can expect “thin skin” and lots of volcanic activity! This means that a child’s sensitivity to “fight, flight, freeze” is over-developed, while the ability to self-regulate these functions is under-developed.
