As a therapist specializing in self-esteem, I provide a nurturing and empathetic space for individuals to explore and enhance their sense of self-worth. Together, we'll work on identifying the root causes of low self-esteem and understanding how it manifests in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Using evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and positive psychology, I'll help you challenge negative self-talk, overcome self-limiting beliefs, and cultivate a more compassionate self-view. We'll explore your strengths, values, and achievements to build a healthier self-concept and foster self-acceptance. My goal is to empower you to embrace your inherent worth, build resilience against setbacks, and live authentically with confidence. Let's embark on this journey towards nurturing a positive and fulfilling relationship with yourself.

Self-esteem is the degree to which we feel worthy, valuable and confident in any particular moment in time. Without the proper skill-set, these feelings or beliefs can significantly affect our well-being and social interactions. Low self-esteem is associated with feelings of self-criticism, self-doubt, shame, social isolation, sadness, guilt, and suppressed anger. Low self-esteem is also commonly a symptom of several mental health conditions including depression and anxiety.

So much of therapy centers on clients' experience of self -- how they feel about themselves, how they view and regard themselves. Through dreamwork, the imagination, creative expression, the recognition and identification of core thoughts and feelings, and the therapy relationship itself, my goal is to help clients to come home to themselves. This is the true and abiding ground of self-esteem.

What most people aspire to when they say they want to improve their self-esteem is actually an improved ability to practice self-compassion. Most people are much harder on themselves than they are on other people. Learning to practice self-compassion is as simple and as difficult as acknowledging that you are human and therefore fallible. This means divesting from perfectionism, which is the greatest enemy of self-esteem, and learning to define your self-worth as stable, rather than as something that’s grounded in the things you’ve achieved. It’s also important to acknowledge the role of our culture in perpetuating low self-esteem. After participating in a year-long, intensive “culture-making” course with Kelly Diels, a justice-oriented marketing consultant who teaches people how to combat cisheteropatriarchy and white supremacy, while promoting equity and combatting social conditioning, I’ve completely transformed the way I contextualize self-esteem challenges. I used to say, “let’s help you get better at this.” Now I say, “let’s first figure out whose voice this is, so that we can put the blame in an appropriate place.” For support in combatting low self-esteem, reach out. I look forward to meeting you soon!
