Jeannette Craigfeld
Psychologist, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist
I have found that many of the women and gender non-conforming people I work with spend much of their lives focused on the needs of others around them, often at the cost of their own wants and needs. I love working with these clients to find their voice and begin to advocate for themselves in various areas of their life. I was trained in Feminist Therapy and aim to use a feminist and multicultural lens in all of the work that I do.

In addition, I did the initial training for the staff of the Rape Crisis Center in the early 1970's. I also taught a class on Women's studies for The George Washington University, and American University. In addition, I gave talks on Feminist Therapy to the Brookings Institute and different colleges and universities. It might seem strange for a man to list women’s issues as a specialty, but it was the mistreatment of women in my life that inspired me to research alternatives to mainstream medicine and mental health.
I don’t claim to have special insights into women’s issues, but as a member of a “target” group myself (I’m a man of color, and a short one at that.), I relate to some of the societal “isms” that women face. A girlfriend once said “You think more like a woman than any man I’ve known.” I think she was exasperated, but I was complimented.
Maybe this is why I attract a higher percentage of female clients (especially female therapists!) than most males in a therapeutic role, and why I’ve long had more female friends than male friends.
I’m a reasonably enlightened guy who’s proud to say I’m a feminist (although I also work well and respectfully with women who are politically and religiously traditional and/or conservative).
So, if you think it might help to have a male perspective and (depending on your age) some healthy father energy in your life, get in touch.

Licensed Professional Counselor, LGPC
When treating women's issues, creating a safe and empathetic space for women to explore their unique experiences and concerns without judgment is essential in sessions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques can be employed to address specific cognitive distortions or negative thought patterns related to women's issues, such as imposter syndrome or body image concerns. Integrative therapy may incorporate elements of DBT, internal family systems, and somatic therapy to holistically address women's issues, considering the interplay of psychological, interpersonal, and cultural factors in the client's life.
