Cook Counseling and Consulting Inc.

Counselor/Therapist, LISW-S, LCSW-QS, CCTP
Cook Counseling and Consulting Inc. is a group of highly trained professionals providing mental health services based in Columbus, Ohio. We work with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan, focusing on young adults. We are also experts in LGBTQIA+ and ENM/ polyamory. Many of our clients have found great success in many facets of their lives but struggle to manage their emotions and stress. We are particularly sensitive to those experiencing life transitions like moving, a breakup, changing jobs, graduating, or beginning a new relationship when self-doubt and increased anxiety and depression can emerge. Our approach is rooted in evidence-based treatment that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are related so that they can begin making targeted and sustainable changes. Our clinicians blend person-centered therapy with cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectal behavior therapy, motivational interviewing and acceptance, and commitment therapy. We help clients understand their physical and emotional responses to stressors and learn to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change. Cook Counseling and Consulting Inc. focuses on ensuring our clients see real progress. We are warm, laid back, and affirming. We are sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges, and we work closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and self-compassion. Our priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. We offer the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.

Insight Psychological Group

Psychologist, Psy.D.s, LCSWs, LPCs, LCADCs...
Insight Psychological Group (IPG) was founded in 2013 by Dr. David A. Helfgott based upon the simple premise: Psychotherapy is not purely a medical treatment; it is also an authentic human engagement. Dr. Helfgott's vision was to create a large group of compassionate, uniquely skilled, and committed therapists offering quality, impactful psychotherapy in a way that reaches individuals deeply and lastingly. We all live in the same world, and we depend on each other. IPG therapists know well the challenges of the world we face, but they also know how to be patient and listen to your particular lived experience. Without any agenda, your therapist will follow your lead and use their wealth of training, experience and expertise to be most helpful to your situation.

Dr. William Christiana

Psychologist, PsyD
I am a licensed psychologist in New Jersey and New York. I have specialized training in the assessment and treatment of mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative partnership with my patients, viewing this as the foundation for our work together. I strongly believe that all people are capable of positive change and see psychotherapy as vehicle in that process, helping to foster introspection, self-awareness, compassion, and personal growth.

Dr. Mike Abrams

Psychologist, PhD, MBA, ABPP
I limit my practice to a few clients with whom I can offer meaningful help. I do not think it is ethical for a psychologist to agree to work with someone who has a problem outside of their expertise or someone who has barriers that the psychologist suspects they cannot overcome. When I conclude that I can help someone, I collaborate with them while applying the most appropriate methods for their problems. I choose these methods from among the many I have studied or developed. This is sometimes called a Transdiagnostic Integrative technique. Here, a clinical label or diagnosis is less important than the unique collection of symptoms a person is living with. I also make sure that I come to understand the client's point of view, how their adversities, their personal philosophy, and their level of suffering combine to lead to their anxiety, depressed mood, or even anger. When the client agrees, I prefer to use psychological testing to be sure my assessment of the client's situation is supported by the best available science. When I conduct psychotherapy, I know it can only be effective when I view the client as presenting many intricate problems that must be fully understood, so each client's issues are approached as scientific hypotheses that guide therapy, which guide my specific interventions, but is always open to revision as new life history information or psychological data becomes available. Since I have trained numerous therapists and continue researching and publishing in the field, my clients are assured they receiving the most effective evidence-based interventions. If you do see me, you can be confident that you will be unconditionally accepted in a safe and comfortable therapeutic relationship with every effort being made to help you.

Megan Shurtleff

Counselor/Therapist, LSW
My clinical experience includes working with individuals and groups experiencing anxiety (generalized, OCD, PTSD), depression, bipolar disorder, substance use disorder, attachment-related issues, adjustment issues, and grief. I have worked with various populations across different settings including working with adolescents in a community program, dual diagnosis clinical setting, and in crisis intervention in a hospital setting. Using a strengths-based and client-centered approach to therapy, I work collaboratively with clients to address their current difficulties by identifying root causes and individualized goals for change. My goal is to empower individuals to create a pathway to achieving these goals by developing and implementing strategies and coping skills that can best help them achieve lasting and meaningful changes on their terms. I am a licensed LSW in NJ, working toward LCSW licensure. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Anthropology, and my Masters of Social Work from Binghamton University. I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, allowing therapeutic experience to be adapted to best suit each individual’s needs and circumstances. I provide a warm, open, and nonjudgmental space to work through the change process. Modalities I use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy.
